Laaiqa Madrasa, established in 2023 by Shoib Akthar, known as “Aabid Bruda,” is South Asia’s first digital madrasa exclusively for women. Sponsored by Buldosoft and located in Kandy, Sri Lanka, Laaiqa Madrasa offers a unique and inclusive educational platform that transcends geographical boundaries, allowing women aged 13 and above to enhance their Islamic knowledge from home. With no specific age limit for enrollment, the madrasa emphasizes flexibility, inclusivity, and accessibility.
In its first year, the madrasa has attracted over 200 students, fostering a vibrant and diverse learning community. It offers a diverse curriculum, including Islamic studies, Quranic education, and contemporary subjects, using “Thanglish” (a blend of Tamil and English) for instruction to ease comprehension and learning.
The madrasa provides a six-month Mu’allima training program to equip educators with the necessary skills to teach effectively. Currently, there are four Mu’allimas. Additionally, it offers opportunities for students to pursue higher Islamic education and certifications, such as the Islamic Deeniyyath Certificate Examination (IDCE). Courses include Mu’allima Methodology, Islamic Science, Islamic Intelligence, Luga, Sharf, Nahu, Seera, and Islamic History, among others.
Laaiqa Madrasa incorporates modern pedagogical techniques, cultural sensitivity, and technological integration into its teaching methodology. It supports continuous professional development and community engagement, ensuring that educators are well-rounded and capable of addressing the unique needs of female students. As the first and best digital madrasa with modern technology for girls, Laaiqa Madrasa stands out as a pioneering institution in Islamic education.
